18TH January. The team at Keith Moss Photography set off to NeST at Barnard Castle to deliver a fashion photography workshop. We arrived early enough to enjoy a sausage sandwich before we had to set up.
Eva – who runs creative workshops at NeSt had sent us a brief. She wanted us to do three different looks, natural, classic, and theatrical with makeup and styling ideas to complement the overall feel of the workshop.
The first look was to demonstrate the relationship between lighting and make-up. Natalie our makeup artist displayed techniques to work with a studio set up, these tips included working with the shape and structure of a models face, enhancing cheek bones and structure of the face to give a defined appearance, understanding the use of make up for a photo shoot, what make up should be used and what should be avoided.
The second look was stepped up a little; an overall darker, smokey look was achieved. Claire used two meters of crushed deep blue velvet to create a classic themed dress which was pinned together. Unfortunately it wasn’t until after the dress had been unpinned and taken off Sophie, the model, that it became apparent that on five occasions Claire had actually pinned Sophie rather than the fabric.
For a number of years Keith has been developing workshops, masterclasses and training programs. Mentoring future photographers is one of Keith’s most rewarding perks to his role as a professional fashion, commercial, fine art photographer, he sees it as a way of giving something back.
Keith and his team work in the fashion and commercial industry but are now dedicating at least one day a week to training opportunities, workshops and mentoring projects.
