Kate Fearnley has earned her the title of Young Fashion Entrepreneur at this year’s Cosmopolitan Ultimate Women Of The Year Awards.

Fearnley joined the likes of Dannii Minogue, Pixie Lott, Holly Willoughby and cricket ace Andrew Flintoff at the glamorous ceremony – which was sponsored by Olay – at the Banqueting House in London’s Whitehall earlier this week, where she was presented with her award by celebrity fan Zoe Salmon.

“I’ve been wearing Kate’s designs for over a year now and my only regret is that I didn’t discover her sooner,” says Salmon, who opted for a show-stopping silver embellished mini by Fearnley for the occasion. “I’ve worn Kate Fearnley for everything from photo shoots and TV appearances to red carpet events. I love the style. Sexy but elegant – perfect!”

Kate also counts Girls Aloud, Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Pixie Lott among her celebrity fanbase. She sells her designs through her flagship store in her native Middlesbrough and her own online boutique, as well as via 80 independent stockists throughout the UK.

“It’s a great honour to accept this award,” she said in a short but sweet acceptance speech. “I’d like to thank Cosmopolitan and everyone who has supported me. I am truly honoured.”

The first shot is a simple headshot which shows Jasmin as a “blank canvas” very little make up and simple styling to create an extremely natural look. After this is achieved we can get a little bit more creative with lighting, styling and imagery.

Kimberley Crooks is a player on the Ladies European Tour (LET) and LET Access Tour. She started playing golf at the age of ten by ‘accident’.

“My Dad and brother both played. Throughout my amateur career I had a lot of support from my family with my Dad as my main caddie and my Mum and Grandad coming to watch the majority of the competitions I played in. During my amateur career I represented Yorkshire Junior Girls team captaining them on several occasions eventually been promoted to the Yorkshire Ladies County Golf team on several occasions during county week and county finals, holing the winning putt in 2007 for Yorkshire to win for the third year running.” Kimberley Crooks

Yesterday Kimberley came to the Keith Moss Studios to get images for press releases, magazine entries, PR and for Kimberley’s new sponsor Divot Diva. After focusing on more product related shots we went to Saltburn Golf Club to capture Kimberley in action on the course.

Keith again was shooting on his Lecia M9 which has hardly been out of his hand since he got it.

Claire was on the Nikon D3 with a 70-210 F2.8.

“It was great to work with Kimberley yesterday, she’s a great character and got straight in to it, often when working with people that haven’t been in a studio set up before, they can be a little bit daunted- not Kimberley, she was confident and great fun to work with” Keith Moss

Nancy Darcy Hair Salon hosts fund raising event to support Breast Cancer awareness

On the 26^th October the girls from Nancy Darcy’s teamed up with local businesses to help raise funds for breast cancer awareness, all the funds from the event were donated to the cause.

Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer among women with 1 in 8 women developing the disease in their lifetime. According to the Centre for Disease Control breast cancer is 2nd leading cause of death in women.

The event which took place at Saltburn Golf Club was hosted by Rebecca Golightly, the Managing Director of Nancy Darcy’s

The event was advertised in the Salon, local press and all businesses involved sold tickets. Over 100 people attended the event and all ticket sales were donated to breast cancer research.

“It seems like so many people we know at the moment are touched by breast cancer, be it a family member, friend, relative or neighbour, we wanted to do something to lend our support and reach out to those suffering” Rebecca Golightly  Managing Director Nancy Darcy Hair Salon

The night was packed with Dance routines, competitions, and catwalk shows with real clients modelling clothes which were styled by Sally from Kiwi Boutique Guisborough. Our very own Pat Moss was one of the real women to strut down the Catwalk and she did the Moss Team proud! The catwalk models showcased a variety of this seasons different looks which were photographed by Keith Moss.

The Girls did a superb job and have raised over £700

I have always been involved in the fashion industry ever since I started as a Professional photographer, which is now over 20 years.  In the old days we all shot on film, you could not afford any mistakes, film is not forgiving.  Make up, hair the model and the skills of the photographer all had to be perfect.  In my opinion nothing has changed we just use another medium, digital, it’s just a different process, and you still need the same skills.

I don’t want to talk about the technicalities of lighting, colour accuracy, exposure and so forth, most photographers can do this with ease and at the end of the day this is a basic requirement.   What I love about fashion photography is the journey of getting to that finished image.

The journey for me starts with my customer’s potential client, what the potential client needs to see to turn them on into buying my customers clothes. I always put myself into this position and before long I have a feel for what is required. The style, feel, mood, let’s face it everything is bought on emotion, desire and lifestyle, and then quite quickly images start coming into my head.

The next part of the journey is model, location or studio.  I am so lucky nowadays; I have a fantastic team that get involved right from the start.  It has taken me the best part of 18 years to find that special blend of people, fashion stylist, makeup artist, hair stylist and post production expert, all as individuals are superb but together are perfect just perfect. We all complement each other; I often say that the strength is in the team not me, it is so important to have the perfect team.

I am a people person; I love people whether it’s Bob and Betty from around the corner or one of the many models we work with.  It’s so important to work with the right people who have something special inside, after all, beauty is only skin deep, for me beauty lies beneath. Working with the right model can create the right feel, mood, emotion and convey the right message.  I never push models out of their comfort zone in my experience it’s the wrong thing to do as the finished image will be lacking, not good for you or the client.

As a photographer the most important skill to have is the ability to connect very quickly with your subject matter, whether it’s people, objects, or the landscape you have to feel it, understand it and embrace it and finally capture it, the image happens in just one millisecond don’t miss it. Technical photographic skills are essential but have a small part to play in the process of creating beautiful imagery.

When I sit down to prepare my meals, I know for certain that vegetables will always find their way onto my table. Although I like to grill vegetables, steaming them is one of my preferred methods.
